countryside and fantastic coastline... very peaceful." Mr &

| Almost half the Island is designated an Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty. Its small size means everywhere is within easy reach,
and yet there are over 500 miles (800km) of coastal and rural footpaths
and bridleways, NT and OS walks, waymarked trails, high downlands
and steep chines, all waiting to be explored. |
 |
| Niton lies at the Island's southern tip and enjoys
some of the UK's sunniest summers - and mildest winters - thanks
to its sheltered southerly aspect. A popular stop for walkers, the
area contributes some truly dramatic scenery to the famous 60mile
(95km) round-Island Coastal Path which passes right by the chalet.
|
 |
| Surrounded by pretty country lanes, Westcliff is also
the ideal base for cyclists. For more of a challenge (and the chance
to see some spectacular rugged coastline) there's the windswept
old "Military Road" which stretches north from Niton and takes in
cliffs, flats, peaks and valleys all the way up the West Coast to
the Needles. |
 |
 |
| Fossil-hunters too are well-served (BBC's Dinosaur Island was
filmed just up the coast), as are birdwatchers and naturalists with
the nearby Undercliff offering habitat to many rare species. |
 |
| For more traditional seaside pursuits, young families love to
bask in nearby Ventnor Bay's safe beach and rockpools, while couples
can seek out the Island's sleepy harbours and romantic inns. Several
beautiful local coves are also tucked away just a short distance
from the chalet. |
 |
| Budding Alan Titchmarshes will want to sample the subtropical
delights of Ventnor's Botanic Gardens... that's if they can tear
themselves away from our own magnificent grounds! Swaying palm trees
and bright mallow adorn the gorgeous well-tended slopes in the gardens,
and the chalet itself offers wonderful picture-postcard views across
the treetops to the sea. |
